Stroke is an attack on the brain, this happens when the blood supply to any part of the brain is hindered or not sufficient. This caused damage to the brain parts. Another name for stroke is a cerebrovascular accident. The blood carries oxygenated blood and glucose to the brain and glucose to the brain and all other parts of the body. Therefore when the blood supply to the brain is hindered oxygen and glucose is also hindered from getting to the brain and brain cells die within a few minutes without oxygen and glucose
Types of stroke
Hemorrhagic stroke- this happens when a blood vessel gets ruptured blood leaks into the brain cells. A common cause of this is high blood pressure and when there is a weakness or thinness in the wall of a blood vessel (aneurysm)
Ischemic stroke- this occurs when the brain is blocked by fatty deposit, cholesterol clog or blood cloths that forms as a result of poor blood flow from an irregular heartbeat
Transient ischemic attack (TIA) occurs when there is a temporary obstruction of blood flow to the brain through this does not cause permanent brain damage it raises one’s risk of having a major stroke.
