*Affidavit to disqualify her from petitioning tribunal panel was filed.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has filed a 19-paragraphed affidavit to preclude the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, from directing the petition challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.
PDP, in the affidavit it connected in help of a movement it filed before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, illustrated proof to support its charge that Justice Bulkachuwa was not the correct person to head the panel hearing the request its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, held up to question the result of the February 23 presidential poll.
It will be reviewed that Atiku and his party had on Wednesday, told the tribunal court that they were not happy with Justice Bulkachuwa’s choice to head the five-man panel.
The party looked for a private gathering with members of the panel, an advancement that prompted a temporary suspension of procedures of the tribunal.
In the meantime, after the gathering that kept going more than 20 minutes, the panel reconvened, after which Justice Bulkachuwa directed the petitioners to document a formal solicitation to sack her from the board. She said the letter ought to be brought formally to empower the court to run on it, even as the issue was dismissed till May 22 for hearing.
Meantime, in view of the order, PDP and Atiku, through their lead counsel, Dr. Livy Uzuokwu, SAN, composed a letter it sponsored with an affidavit that was removed to by its Deputy National Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Agbo
In the letter, a duplicate of which was located by Vanguard the previous evening, the solicitors, demanded they were not happy that Justice Bulkachuwa, who they portrayed as “a spouse and mother of card conveying individuals from the All Progressives Congress”, assigned herself to head the Presidential election petition tribunal panel.
The petitioners demanded that there are more than 80 Justices in the Court of Appeal that could viably head the board. PDP noticed that Justice Bulkachuwa had at the inaugural session of the tribunal while conveying her inaugural speech, expressed as follows:
“Elections are held in Nigeria every four years into elective positions. No matter how well the election is conducted there are bound to be complaints…
”indicated by the petitioners, “By making that remark, it would appear that Honourable Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa had already prejudged the Presidential election as “well” conducted and that this Petition is one of the complaints that come up “no matter how well the election is conducted”. “Justice must not only be done but must be manifestly seen to have been done”, it added
In the affidavit that was dismissed to by its Deputy National Secretary, Mr. Agbo, the solicitors asserted: “I realize that Honorable Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa (PCA) who right now directs the Panel exposing the Petitioners/Applicants’ Petition is the life partner of Honorable Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa, a partner in the third Respondent.
